BOOKS and DVDs on WORLD WAR I and II,
FILMS and FILM PRESERVATION
GEORGE RONY was a voracious reader of history. He left behind an impressive library of books, many of which are no longer in print. However, since his passing more than three decades ago, many superlative new texts have been written and fictional accounts have been filmed about the tumultous years and experiences of WWI and WWII.

This page is a work in progress to provide a virtual list of book and DVD titles that GEORGE RONY read or would have likely acquired. The listings are in no particular order -- neither chronological nor clustered by topic.

In 1933, the Nazi's began to burn the books of writers whose ideas were opposed to their principles. GEORGE RONY, in Berlin at the time, wrote,

"One sweep of the torches and a blaze shot up into the sky. . . . Eager to remember each noble name, I forced my memory to register as many as I could. Here is a scroll of honor so far as I have been able to preserve it.. . . . Voltaire, Emil Ludwig, Antole France, Karl Marx, Emile Zola, Arnold Zweig, Romaine Rolland, Heinrich Heine, Jules Romains, Maxim Gorky, Clemenceau, Lenin, Thomas Mann, Joseph Stalin, Albert Einstein. Selma Lagerlof, Erich Remarque, Upton Sinclair, Sigmund Freud, John Dos Passos, Jacob Wassermann, Sinclair Lewis, Lion Feuchtwanger, Pearl Buck, Stefan Zweig, Aldous Huxley, Franz Werfel, H. G. Wells, Theodore Dreiser."
